Jihye arrived in South Korea in March 2016. When asked about her impression of Seoul, she said that she has found a number of similarities with her hometown Pyongyang, especially in the roads and cityscape. Despite her fairly high socioeconomic status in North Korea, she has decided to come to South Korea to pursue her freedom. Upon her arrival, she began searching for opportunities to learn English via the internet, where she came across PSCORE. Since May 2016, she has been taking the Wednesday English classes with PSCORE and has been in contact with her assigned volunteer teachers.

Jihye plans to attend university in South Korea, where she wants to pursue a degree in Economics. Her future plans have changed multiple times. At first, she toyed with the idea of getting into restaurant business; now, she is more into fashion.

Jihye has been paired up with 3 different teachers through PSCORE, prior to being introduced to a new teacher who has helped her develop computer skills. These lessons take place in a coffee shop. Jihye feels extremely grateful that her teacher always pays for their drinks. She wishes that someday, she would be the one who treats the teacher. Though she felt a little awkward when she met her first teacher, she is gradually getting more comfortable interacting with them.

Jihye has said that PSCORE has been a big help. In terms of educational needs, it has linked her with someone who is willing to offer her a quality education, something she urgently needs, while also providing her with useful advice and assistance regarding university applications. In the meantime, she has been able to put herself in an environment where she could build positive relationships with people who are actually willing to help her without expecting any type of repayment. This gives her a sense of internal stability. In fact, teachers (including foreigners) that she has previously been connected with have later become her friends. She also stays in touch with the Secretary General of PSCORE.

Jihye mentioned she sincerely admires them for what they do, particularly their volunteer service and support for underserved people like herself.

PSCORE will continue supporting and encouraging Jihye throughout the steps she takes to build her life in Seoul.
