How did you find out about PSCORE?

PSCORE 봉사 프로그램에 대해 어떻게 알게 되었습니까 ?

- Family became interested in NK.

- Sister about to study abroad; wanted to visit sister while doing something meaningful on the side.

- Found PSCORE on the internet while looking for short-term occupations during Korea stay.

- 가족이 북한에 관해 관심이 있게됐습니다. 

- 자매가 해외에 나가 공부를 하게 되어 무언가 의미있는 활동을 하며 자매를 방문하고 싶었습니다. 

- 한국에 잠시 머물 동안 할 직업에대해 찾아보다가 PSCORE-성통만사를 인터넷에서 찾게되었습니다.

Why did you decide to start tutoring North Korean defectors?

과외를 시작하게 된 기계가 있나요?

- Was interested in Korea overall.

- Wanted to help big-scale issues/people suffering reported on the news.

- Wants to help overall.

- Saw NK and defectors as a chance to help effectively contribute to a bigger cause.

- 한국에 관해 전반적으로 관심이 생겼었습니다. 

- 뉴스에 나온 큰 문제 및 사건으로 인해 고통받는 사람들을 도와주고 싶었습니다. 

- 북한과 탈북자들을 큰 목적에 효과적으로 기여할 수 있는 기회로 보았습니다 .

What does the process of studying look like for you?

어떤 식으로 과외를 진행하시나요?

- Focus on English communication; little to no Korean.

- Lots of basic reading taught.

- Showing pics/items on screen and defectors naming them.

- Teaching students in a group but taking their answers individually to assess them effectively.

- Asking Korean-speaking friends to translate vocab lists and forwarding them to students.

- Linking vocab to pics to make memorization easier.

- 영어 대화에 집중했고 거의 한국어는 하지않았으며 많은 기본적인 독해를 가르쳐줬습니다. 

- 화면에 사진들을 보여주며 탈북학생들이 맞춰보도록 했습니다. 

- 학생들 개개인의 영어 실력을 효과적으로 평가하기위해 단체 수업으로 진행하나 한명 한명의 답변을 받았습니다. 

- 한국어를 할 줄아는 친구들에게 번역을 부탁해서 그 번역된 어휘 리스트를 학생들에게 전달해주도록 했습니다.

- 단어를 사진과 함께 연결 시켜주어 학생들로 하여금 영단어 암기를 더 쉽게 할 수 있도록 했습니다.

Is there a special activity you like to do with the students?

과외를 진행하시면서 특별한 활동 같은것이 있나요?

- Teaching them pronouns.

- Funny pictures to teach students pronouns.

- Tried to assign homework by showing them English TV shows; recapping shows the week after by asking about plot/favourite line.

- Assessment of whether homework was done or not very clear.

- Meeting students in person was very nice.

- 대명사들을 가르쳤습니다. 

- 학생들에게 대명사를 가르쳐주기위해 웃긴 사진을 사용했습니다. 

- 영어 드라마를 보여주며 숙제를 내줬습니다. 

- 일주일 후 가장 좋아하는 대사가 뭐였는지 물어보며 복습했습니다. 

- 숙제가 완료되었는지 확인했습니다. 학생들과 실제로 만나는 것은 매우 좋았습니다.

In what way is this experience most rewarding for you?

어떤 면에서 이 경험이 가장 보람이 있습니까? 

- Meeting students in person and directly interacting with them.

- Celebrating students' efforts together.

- 학생들의 노력을 함께 축하하며 실제로 학생들을 만나고 소통하는 것이 가장 보람이 있었습니다.

What did you learn from this experience? 

이 경험을 통해 어떤 것을 배웠습니까?

- Increased sympathy for North Koreans/generally oppressed people

- Realization of how real and human conflicts and their repercussions are; personal relationship to defectors

- "Those people are like me and have the same hopes and dreams"

- Humanized the whole experience/conflict situation

- 북한 사람들과 다른 억압받는 사람들에대한 동정심을 더 많이 갖게 되었습니다.

- 분쟁과 영향이 얼마나 실제적인지를 깨달았습니다. 

- 탈북자들과의 개인적인 관계에 대해 배웠습니다. 

- 그들은 저와 같았고 똑같은 희망과 꿈이 있는 자들이였습니다. 모든 경험과 분쟁 상황에대해 인간적으로 받아들일 수 있었습니다.

What is your favorite memory of tutoring the students? 

과외를 하시면서 가장 좋았던 면이 뭡니까?

- Meeting students in person and eating fruits with them after class to celebrate their efforts and progress.

- 학생들을 직접 만나 수업이 끝난 후 그들의 노력과 발전을 축하하며 과일을 먹은 것이 가장 좋은 기억입니다.
